Volunteer Opportunities

Classroom Representatives

Classroom reps act as a communication link between the general PAC and the parents. Each classroom has one or more parent volunteer(s) that help by participating in monthly PAC meetings. They can also work with the teacher to support the classroom in whatever ways work best for the teacher and the classroom rep(s). Some ways are assisting with book orders, organizing drivers for field trips, welcoming new families, organizing activities, projects or displays and assisting with the contact of other families. The extent of involvement with the teacher is up to the teacher and volunteer.

Committees and Coordinators

There are ongoing PAC activities, as well as one-time events, which require coordinators and volunteers. Following are some of those activities with a brief description.

Early Morning Watch

This important safeguard procedure ensures that your child’s whereabouts is accounted for during the school day. Parent volunteers record the names of children entering the school after the bell has rung and class has started and then turn this list into the office secretary. Volunteers usually offer one day per week (depending on the number of volunteers) and are needed for about 15-20 mins.
If your child is going to be late or away from school, please call the Early Morning Watch number before 8:45am.

Emergency preparedness

In September the parents are asked to supply a comfort kit for their child. Parent volunteers are needed to help the coordinator organize the kits into the class totes that are stored in the emergency kiosk. It is at this time that parent volunteers go through the emergency back packs from each classroom to make sure that all the supplies are current and have not exceeded their shelf life.

Family Fun Nights

Frequently, throughout the year, the PAC puts on a Family Fun Night. We get together and do fun activities like pumpkin carving at Halloween time, dances once in a while and what seems to be the most fun… Pizza and a Movie night!! It’s a great opportunity to get together and have fun and get to know one another on a more fun filled basis. This Year we will feature the semi-annual Fun Fair!

Fundraising

The PAC holds various fundraisers throughout the year. The money raised provides equipment and materials agreed upon by the parents and staff, which would otherwise not be purchased due to school budget constraints.

In the past, the PAC has raised funds to purchase computers for the computer lab, playground equipment and library books and busses for field trips to name a few. The PAC also funds special projects such as musical presentations, multi-cultural projects and drama productions.
Some of our past fundraisers have included Entertainment Books, Gift Wrap Campaign, Poinsettias and Mother’s Day Flowers and the Fun Fairs and Special Lunch Days, not to forget Easter Chocolates from PURDY’S!

This September all students are being asked to sell SaveAround Coupon Books. Last year the PAC raised more than $2,500.00 with this one fundraiser!! Hopefully we can do even better this year!

If you have an idea for a fundraiser please contact the executive.

Lice Checks

A group of parent volunteers spend about 1½ – 2 hours about once every 2 months. If parents from each class volunteer to do this once or twice in the year all the children will be checked sufficiently to ensure that our school stays as lice-free as possible.

Special Lunch

Once a month special lunch days are offered to the students. Parent volunteers are needed on the day of the lunch from 11:30am-12:15pm to pass out each classrooms food orders.

Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week

Celebrated during February, this week allows both parents and students alike to show their appreciation to the teachers and staff for their hard work and dedication. Parent volunteers coordinate a buffet lunch on Wednesday and various snacks throughout the week for all the teachers and staff to enjoy.

Welcome Back and Family BBQ

Each September the PAC organizes and BBQ for everyone’s enjoyment. Hotdogs and hamburgers, games and lots of family fun! Come join the fun and meet the other parents and get to know your PAC in early September!
